L'Anse aux Meadows - UNESCO World Heritage Site
Busy working on pieces for the April exhibition in Edmonton on Canada's UNESCO World Heritage Sites. This one is based upon the Viking ruins in NFLD at L'Anse aux Meadows. For almost 1000 years the long green ridges in the area were unexplored until a Norwegian team excavated in the 1960s and discovered the first known European settlement in North America. My interest in this was peaked when I visited Iceland in 2004 with my son and we explored many a sod house; plus my trip to Norway and Sweden in 2005 following Viking trails (and heavy metal music) between countires.
