Calyx Distinctive Art Exhibition and Sale

I have just received notice that I got juried into the Calyx Distinctive Art show and sale for both of their Calgary and Edmonton shows this spring. In Calgary there are 2 separate sales, with 30 different artists each day. This will be their 13th year of the semi-annual art exhibition and sale in Calgary.

They have just expanded in to Edmonton and this year will be their fourth show. I am looking forward to showing in my home town and having familiar faces visit. More details to follow on what I will have available...

Engineered Spaces

SPACES, the first ever Engineering Art Show is being held in Edmonton at the University of Alberta (where I got my Civil Engineering degree over 30 years ago) and it gave me a chance to finally combine my engineering background with my textile arts. I am very excited about being in this show!

It is spread over two engineering buildings, the ETCL and NREF on the U of A north campus, and runs from March 19th to 30th. Their publicity says "We have over 30 artists who have submitted over 50 diverse works - everything from textiles to sculptures, canvasses to multimedia, paintings to photography."

The Edmonton Journal did a photo collage of some of the pieces in the show - click here to see it. And my son, who is currently attending the U of A, took some photos for me of my pieces.

Erosion at Hopewell Rocks

"Erosion at Hopewell Rocks"
Bay of Fundy, New Brunswick.
This is the piece I had to get off to England by the end of January for three shows in 2012.

detail:

The project is called "Articulated Materials: Bridging Waters" and is a joint venture between Articulation (Canadian textile group) and Material Girls (UK textile group) upon iconic waterways in their respective countries - the Bay of Fundy in Canada, and the River Thames in England. This show will travel the UK in 2012 and move to various locations across Canada in 2013 and 2014.

The first showing was at The Brentwood Road Gallery, Romford from February 22 to March 2nd.
